Barby & Onley Parish Councillors

The Councillors Register of Interests can be viewed at the West Northamptonshire website (Parish Councils – Register of Interests)

New councillors needed

Why be a parish councillor?

  • Do you want to help make changes in Barby and Onley?
  • Do you want to influence spending in our area?
  • Do you want to make a difference to the community?
  • Do you want your voice to be heard?

If this sounds like you, why not apply to join Barby and Onley Parish Council?

How much time do I need to commit?

Councillors are unpaid volunteers who give their time and knowledge. We all have busy lives, so the amount of time given will vary from person to person. We meet the second Monday of the month in Barby Village Hall and twice a year in Onley Village hall. Councillors may also work individually or in groups on specific projects. How much time you give and what you volunteer for is your choice, but working as a team and sharing responsibilities is key to being an effective Councillor.

Will I get some training?

New Councillors attend a training course held in the evening via Zoom as an introduction to what Councils do. Specific role-based courses are also available.

What will I do?

Councillors generally have specific responsibilities which vary in terms of commitment. They may also get involved in one-off projects in order to improve wellbeing, safety or facilities, they may be involved in managing events or the Neighbourhood Development Plan. If you have a particular interest or have identified an issue you want to get involved in, just let us know.

What will I get from it?

You will meet new people and have an opportunity to learn and show communication, managing, organisational, leadership and decision-making skills. You will know that you are helping individuals and the community and have a better understanding of local issues.

If you want to find out more, please feel free to speak to a current Councillor, or the Clerk to the Council. If you would like an application form, please contact the Clerk on 07864 579068 or clerk@barbyandonleyparishcouncil.co.uk
